IS SOCIAL MEDIA STILL RELEVANT?

Updated: Jan 1

Yes, social media is still relevant. And I get why the question even exists. I’ve been asking myself the same thing all 2025. These platforms have various audiences, pros, cons...didn't even mention bad actors and poor leadership. They aren't even what they used to be. Simply put...I can't be everywhere, and now I'm thinking if I even want to.

Facebook acts as a phone book. Events and groups really allow real people to connect, an experience everynow and then that comes from the time machine jumbled feed. Instagram operates feels like traffic, everyone is on top of each other, the roads can be bigger, but once you find a lane, you can benefit. The Instagram DM is still a undervauled touch point, but the algorithm prioritizes shade and money over quality content. Twitter was my favorite, but now X is a cesspool. But I still find myself scrolling and replying, thinking it's 09. TikTok's algorithm prioritizes interests and actively learns from every gesture. I’ve been posting there far more consistently than anywhere else. That’s intentional. There are so many types of creators on there, DJs reign free. Short/long form video, gifs, photos, and livestreams all fit in their respective places. LinkedIn feels like Facebook at its prime; a lot of action is happening, with people connecting, sharing, and networking.

Create for the platform you enjoy, but remember who you serve. My phone storage is overflowing with videos and just as many Canva designs. There is media to go around! Even though I’m not a regular user on Instagram or Facebook, people in my community are. That matters.

TANGBILE TIPS

  • Share smarter, not harder: Instagram and Facebook make cross-posting easy. Focus on one platform and share with the other. Every platform has a share button; you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Even Spotify gives you a mini visualizer for vertical posts. Use the tools. Let them work.

  • Curate your feed: Don’t like everything. Pluck the weeds. Shape what you see. That includes tapping “Not Interested” on ads that miss the mark and unfollowing accounts that no longer align.

  • Review your bookmarks: There’s a whole universe sitting in there, ideas you saved and never revisited. Go back. Reconnect. Clean house.

So maybe the bigger question isn’t whether social media is relevant?

It’s are you relevant on social media?

  • Are you sharing content that connects?

  • Are you consuming content that helps you grow?

  • Are you doomscrolling or exploring?
